Leaders among 42 Taliban militants killed in E. Afghanistan airstrikes

Ghazni, Afghanistan, May 1 (Xinhua) More than 40 militants loyal to the Taliban group, including three of their local commanders, have been killed, following a spate of joint Afghan and foreign coalition forces operations in the country's eastern Ghazni province, an official said Wednesday.

The air-and-ground operations conducted by joint Afghan and coalition forces over the last 24 hours, resulted in the deaths of 42 fighters and injuries of six others, in Giro, Andar, Deyakand Ab Band districts of the province, provincial governor's spokesman Aref Noori told Xinhua.

Three local commanders of the militants namely Obaida, Shuaib and Omari are among the dead, the spokesman said.

Arms and ammunition as well as two cars and two motorcycles have been seized from insurgents during the raids, according to the source.

The Taliban hasn't commented on the incident yet.
