London, June 16 (IBNS): Queen Elizabeth II and Prince William visited a relief centre and met victims of the Grenfell Tower fire here.

The Queen and Prince visited Westway Sports Centre in the city which witnessed the massive fire incident which left several people dead.

Kensington Palace tweeted: "The Queen and The Duke of Cambridge are visiting the Westway Sports Centre in London following the fire at Grenfell Tower."

Sharing pictures where The Queen and Prince William is seen speaking to people, the official Twitter handle of the palace posted: "The Queen and The Duke are meeting members of the emergency services, as well as local residents and community representatives."

Several people were killed in the fire incident at the tower.

PM Theresa May earlier promised a full inquiry, as questions were being asked about the speed at which the fire spread.

Speaking in Downing Street,  May said: "When it's possible to identify the cause of this fire, then of course there will be proper investigation and if there are any lessons to be learnt they will be, and action will be taken."

A wall of condolence was put up near the scene with photographs showing dozens of messages left for loved ones.

Grenfell Tower, which built in 1974, was recently refurbished at a cost of £8.6 million, with work completed in May last year.
