Winnipeg/IBNS: Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal awards were conferred on the members of Manitoba’s Wildfire and Conservation Officer Services on Thursday at the Legislative Building, Minister of Natural Resources, and Northern Development Scott Fielding announced in a news release.

“Today’s ceremony marks the first presentation of this distinguished award...dedication is particularly timely after the challenges of the 2021 wildfire season, which Manitoba has not seen since the record-setting season of 1989,” said Fielding in a news release.

Sixteen individuals from Manitoba’s Wildfire and Conservation Services were the recipient of this prestigious Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, which is a Governor General’s Award and honours long-service members of recognized Canadian fire service for their good conduct and efficiency.

Individuals dedicated to preserving Canada’s public safety through long and exemplary outstanding public service in emergency services are eligible for Canada’s Exemplary Service Medals only after 20 years of service with at least 10 years of performing duties involving potential risks associated with front-line service.

Nominations driven by the peers of each medal recipient were reviewed and approved through the Manitoba Medals Committee, which is administered by the Fire Commissioner's office.
