New Delhi/UNI: Moeed Yusuf is Pakistan's new National Security Advisor.
A cabinet notification dated May 17 said Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Yusuf, his Special Assistant on National Security, as the country's National Security Adviser.
"The Prime Minister has been pleased to approve that Dr Moeed W Yusuf, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security and Strategic Policy Planning, shall function as National Security Adviser with the status of Federal Minister, with immediate effect," said the notification.
The US-educated Yusuf has written a book, Brokering Peace in Nuclear Environments: U.S. Crisis Management in South Asia.
He was said to have played a part in back-channel talks between Pakistan and India that led to the LoC ceasefire.
Pakistan's The Nation newspaper said Yusuf had called on Prime Minister Khan on Monday and both discussed regional peace during the meeting.
