North Korea willing to hold talks with U.S?

Seoul, Feb 25 (IBNS): A ranking North Korean official told South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Sunday that his nation is willing to hold talks with the United States, media reports said.

The remarks from Kim Yong-chol, a senior official of the North's ruling Worker's Party in charge of inter-Korean relations, came in a meeting with Moon in PyeongChang, the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, reported Yohap News agency.

"President Moon pointed out that U.S.-North Korea dialogue must be held at an early date even for an improvement in the South-North Korea relationship and the fundamental resolution of Korean Peninsula issues," Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said of the meeting as quoted as saying by Yonhap.

"The North Korean delegation too agreed that North Korea-U.S. relations must develop along with the South-North Korea relationship while noting (the North) has enough intention to hold North Korea-U.S. dialogue," he  was quoted as saying by the South Korean news agency.

The entire 2017 witnessed US President Donald Trump slamming North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as the Asian nation continued to conduct several of its missile tests, teasing world peace and tranquillity and often threatening to trigger a war.

Situation became far tensed when North Korea tested an inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) that the nation said was capable of striking US mainland.

The United Nations Security Council imposed strong new sanctions against the Asian nation after its November 29 launch of a  nuclear-capable weapon.

Trump often tweeted to slam Kim Jong-un in recent times.
