NYC Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani's wife mourns Palestinian figure who allegedly celebrated Oct. 7 Hamas attacks

Rama Duwaji, wife of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, publicly mourned the death of Palestinian social media figure Saleh al-Jafarawi, who was killed in Gaza on October 12, 2025, during clashes between Hamas and rival factions.

Al-Jafarawi, known as "Mr. FAFO" (F*** Around and Find Out) in Israeli media had allegedly celebrated the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.

Saleh al-Jafarawi, aged 27–28, was shot dead while reportedly covering armed confrontations in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood.

Multiple sources indicate he was killed by members of an armed militia linked to Israel, possibly the Doghmush clan, during clashes with Hamas forces.

Footage verified by Al Jazeera’s Sanad agency showed his body wearing a press vest, and Gaza’s Interior Ministry confirmed an investigation into the incident.

Duwaji shared an Instagram story honouring al-Jafarawi as “beloved”, accompanied by four broken-heart emojis.

This gesture sparked significant backlash, particularly from pro-Israel commentators and MAGA activists, who criticised her for mourning a figure associated with supporting terrorism.

Al-Jafarawi gained notoriety after a video surfaced of him celebrating the October 7 attacks, which killed over 1,200 Israelis.

Jafarawi was labelled as a Hamas propagandist by pro-Israel voices, while some pro-Palestinian activists viewed him as a courageous documentarian.

Accusations also emerged that he misappropriated millions in donations meant for Gaza humanitarian projects, including a children’s hospital.

His death, occurring just after a ceasefire, raises questions regarding Gaza stability amid temporary truces.
