Pakistan: Explosion in New Karachi ice factory leaves 8 killed

Karachi: An explosion rocked inside a boiler room within a factory at New Karachi Industrial Area in Pakistan' Karachi city on Tuesday, leaving at least eight people killed, media reports said.

The blast also left 16 people hurt.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Moeenuddin, the incident took place inside an ice and cold storage factory, Geo News reported.

DSP Moeenuddin told the news channel that the building has been "destroyed" and nearby factories have also been considerably damaged.

Several people are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

Rescue officials have rushed to the spot.

The injured people were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Rescue operation is currently going on.
