Pakistan political crisis: President Alvi dissolves National Assembly on PM Imran Khan's advice

Islamabad: Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi on Sunday dissolved the National Assembly on Prime Minister Imran Khan's advice under Article 58 of the Constitution as the country gears up to witness yet another twist in the political situation.

"The President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, has approved the advice of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to dissolve the National Assembly under the Article 58 (1) read with Article 48(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan," read a tweet posted by the President of Pakistan's Twitter page.

The Pakistan Supreme Court on Sunday took a sou motu notice of the ongoing political situation in the country.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial reached the apex court following the demand of the Opposition leaders to review the "unconstitutional" ruling given by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, Geo News reported.

The judicial staff has also started reaching the top court, according to the report.

The joint Opposition has made a petition to cancel the ruling of the deputy speakers under which the assembly session was adjourned for an indefinite period as Suri cancelled the voting on the no-confidence motion, terming it "unconstitutional".
