Paris attacker was on police watch-list, say reports
According to CNN, the suspect, who was shot dead by French police, was the subject of a "Fiche S" surveillance file and was on the radar of the French domestic security service DGSI.
The incident, dubbed as a 'terror attack' by French President Francois Hollande, took place on Champs-Elysses, the avenue in central Paris known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops.
Though the French officials have barred from making the attacker's identity public, the Islamic State through their mouthpiece Amaq news agency identified him as Abu-Yusuf al-Baljik.
According to French officials, the attacker had already served jail-time in 2000's for attacking police officials with a gun.
CNN reports said Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins will reveal the shooter's identity on Friday at a news conference.
Police located his residence in Paris and are looking for any accomplice in the attack.
Meanwhile, following the attack, the presidential candidates have called off their election campaign.
The French presidential election is scheduled for Sunday.
