Police arrest 3 over weapons smuggling in eastern Afghan province

Kabul/Xinhua: The Afghan National Police in Afghan eastern province of Nangarhar have arrested three people in connection to the smuggling of a large batch of weapons, the country's Interior Ministry said Thursday.

The men have been arrested on Wednesday, when the anti-criminal police identified them smuggling a large batch of light and heavy weapons in Turkham township in the province, 120 km east of Kabul, the ministry said in a statement.

The seized weapons contained 126 pistols, 42 Ak-47 guns, one PK machine gun and more than 10,000 bullets elaborately placed inside a trailer truck, the statement noted.

The truck was confiscated and the arrestees were taken into custody with their file referred to a related department for further investigation.
