Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday described the Russian aerial attack on his nation on Christmas Day as 'inhumane'.

According to reports, Russia launched an aerial attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure across the country.

In an X post, Zelenskyy said: "Today, Putin deliberately chose Christmas for an attack. What could be more inhumane? Over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than a hundred attack drones. The targets are our energy infrastructure. They continue to fight for a blackout in Ukraine. "

Zelenskyy said Russia targeted his nation with missiles and drones.

"According to preliminary reports, our defenders managed to shoot down more than 50 missiles and a significant number of drones. Unfortunately, there have been hits," he said.

Zelenskyy said several regions in the country is facing power outages.

"As of now, there are power outages in several regions. Power engineers are working to restore power supply as soon as possible," he said.

According to reports, the power outage left several people in Kharkiv region without heating in chilling cold weather.

The US ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, described the Russian attack as a Moscow's 'Christmas gift'.

"Russia’s Christmas gift to Ukraine: more than 70 missiles and 100 drones, directed at Ukrainian families celebrating in their homes and the energy infrastructure that keeps them warm. For the third holiday season, Russia weaponizes winter," she wrote on X.

This is the second year Ukraine was celebrating Christmas on December 25, moving away from the Russian tradition of observing the religious occasion on January 7, as per Julian calendar.

Zelenskyy changed the celebration date to December 25 by altering law in 2023.
