Dhaka: Ending a long break of 543 days amid COVID-19 outbreak, schools reopened in Bangladesh on Sunday as students returned to classrooms to take their lessons.

Primary, secondary and higher secondary schools reopened in the country by maintaining all COVID-19 protocols.

Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Primary Education Completion (PEC) examinees were seen going to their educational institutions for attending in-person classes on Sunday morning, reports Dhaka Tribune.

Teachers welcomed back students with flowers and chocolates, following prolonged closure of nearly one and a half years due to the pandemic, the newspaper reported.

Apart from body temperature measurement, in some schools isolation rooms have been opened.

"The students of grades 1-4 and 6-9 will attend classes once a week initially. Later, all the classes will be held regularly", Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.
