Toronto, May 2 (IBNS): A series of explosions rocked the underground hydro vaults of Bank of Nova Scotia at the financial district of Downtown Toronto, paralysing the area, reports said.

The incident took place around 5 pm on Monday.

Reports said that people in the building and underground witnessed heavy smoke coming out from the affected zone.

According to Toronto Police there is no report of any casualty.

The incident happened during the rush hour, retarding traffic movement in all major downtown roads as commuters faced long delays on their way home.

All the major roads in the downtown financial district connecting King Street and Yonge Street have been cordoned off and traffic have been diverted and underground subway service of Toronto Transit Corporation has been suspended until further notice.

The officials of the Toronto Fire Service evacuated 20 King Street which houses the Royal Bank and other offices, as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.

The Hydro engineers, who rushed to the spot, confirmed that the situation is under control and have urged the public to not panic.
