Taliban violence in Badakshan leaves 10 dead

Kabul, Afghanistan/UNI: A Taliban raid at an Afghan army checkpoint left 10 people dead, Afghan Army spokesperson announced on Friday.

Xinhua quoted Afghan army spokesperson Abdul Khalil Khalili saying that the Taliban fighters attacked the army check post at Yamgan district of the Badakhshan province late on Thursday and fighting continued till early hours of Friday.

The dead include four security personnel and six Taliban militants as the Yamgan district which has been a hotbed of the struggle between the security forces and the Islamist Taliban witnessed yet another deadly confrontation between the two.

Khalili said that a group of Taliban insurgents launched multi-pronged offensive on the security checkpoint at the Ashangan area and vowed to chase down the militants.
