Toronto/IBNS: The City of Toronto would be celebrating Canada Day on July 1 starting at 9 a.m. virtually with livestream shows throughout the day, including music performances, culinary showcases, comedy, dance, recognition of frontline workers and more, media reports said.

Based on the recommendations of the health experts, all in-person Canada Day events have been cancelled to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Municipalities across Canada will join the City of Toronto in hosting a national, virtual Canada Day.

"I encourage everyone to participate in our virtual Canada Day and connect as a city. This Canada Day is unlike any other, but it is still an ideal time for us to come together and show our Canadian pride," said Toronto Mayor John Tory.

Canada Day 2020 celebration would feature four livestream segments on the City’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/culture_to.

The Great Canadian Pancake Breakfast would be served at 9 to 10 a.m. along with greetings from Chief Laforme of Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and would feature a socially distanced breakfast by MLSE Executive Chef Chris Zielinski and Mayor John Tory.

Participants would be able to enjoy virtual dance demonstrations 'Keep Rockin You' for easy to learn hip hop moves.

A virtual kaleidoscope of Toronto artists and neighbourhoods would showcase a Culture Jam from  2 to 5 p.m. with more than 35 performances in total.

The Ready for Prime Time segment including a live performance from July Talk with James Bayley and Kyla Charter from iconic music venue the El Mocambo, along with performances by Haviah Mighty and Gordon Lightfoot would be held from 7 to 8 p.m.

Participants would be allowed to sing along to Neil Young’s "Lotta Love" led by Choir! Choir! Choir! and can also download the lyrics to learn the song.

CN Tower Canada Day Light Show at 10 p.m. will be livestreamed set to the music of a diverse group of Canadian artists at the City’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/culture_to and simulcast on CHUM 104.5.

Canada Day 2020 event has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.

Co-produced by Harbourfront Centre, the virtual event would be supported by programming partner TO Live including special project partnership of CN Tower and MAKERS.

Other sponsors of Canada Day 2020 are Toronto Regional Real Estate Board, Tim Hortons, Bell and promotional partners Citytv and TTC.

In its commitment to provide an accessible event, the City of Toronto would make available captioning on all Canada Day 2020 streaming and broadcast services.
