Trump travel ban: Hawaiian judge says cannot impose it on close relatives

Honolulu, Jul 14 (IBNS): Weakening US President Donald Trump's travel ban, a Hawaiian judge said that it cannot be imposed on close relatives like grandfathers and grandchildren, reports said.

The Trump administration had earlier stated that along with entries from six Muslim countries, close relatives like grandparents, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, uncles and aunts would not be allowed to enter the US.

District Judge Derrick Watson in Hawaii said that the travel ban was 'unduly restrictive'.

"Common sense, for instance, dictates that close family members be defined to include grandparents. Indeed, grandparents are the epitome of close family members," he said.

Despite Trump's attempt to label it as a crackdown against terrorism and to keep America safe, critics have said that it exposes his myopia and discrimination towards the Muslims.
