Turkey quake: Death toll rises to 51

Ankara/UNI: Death toll from Friday's earthquake that struck  Turkey's Aegean region rose to 51 on Sunday morning.

The  nation’s Disaster, Emergency Management Authority said that Turkey witnessed 850 aftershocks from the quake with 40 of them being stronger than magnitude-4.0.

Anadolu news agency quoted Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay as saying that the search and rescue operations are still going on.

At least 896 people were wounded on Friday when a magnitude-6.6 quake jolted the Aegean province of Izmir.

As per latest update, a total of 682 victims have been discharged from hospitals, while 214 are still receiving treatment.
