Istanbul/Xinhua: Turkish police on Wednesday detained 11 people, including nine foreign nationals, in Istanbul over their suspected links to the Islamic State (IS), local media reported.

Police launched operations simultaneously in 14 locations across the city to capture the suspects, who were allegedly helping the members of the extremist group in Syria, the private Demiroren news agency said.

One of the suspects is also accused of praising suicide bomber attacks on social media, the agency noted.

The IS was blamed for a spate of deadly attacks over the years in Turkey, in which more than 300 people were killed.
