Udichi bomb attack case in Bangladesh: JMB member executed

Dhaka: A convict in the  2005 Udichi bomb attack case, who is a member of banned terror group  Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), has been executed in Gazipur's Kashimpur Central Jail.

Asaduzzaman Ponir alias Asad, 37, from Mymensingh, was hanged to death at 11pm on Thursday, Senior Jail Superintendent Gias Uddin of Kashimpur jail told Dhaka Tribune.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons (Dhaka division) Towhidur Rahman, Gazipur Civil Surgeon Dr Khairuzzaman, Additional Executive Magistrate Nasrin Akhter, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Zakir Hossain, and Senior Jail Superintendent Gias Uddin were present during the execution of the JMB terrorist.

The JMB member's body was handed over to his family members after the post-execution formalities.

Asad was sentenced to death in connection with the bomb blast at cultural organization Udichi Shilpi Goshthi and Shatadal’s office in Netrakona district on December 8, 2005, which killed eight people and injured many others, reports Dhaka Tribune.
