New York, July 3 (IBNS): The United Nations Security Council has joined an international chorus condemning the terrorist attack on a cafe in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, for which Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da'esh) has claimed responsibility.
In a press statement issued, the Council “condemns the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack, which resulted in more than 20 Bangladeshi nationals and foreigners, including development workers, killed and many injured.”

The 15-member body reaffirmed that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” underscoring the need for all States to combat such threats by all means.

The Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, urging all States to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard.

The Council also reiterated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is “criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation and wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed,” and “should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group.”

it expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, to the people and Government of Bangladesh, as well as peoples and Governments of foreign victims, wishing speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

The Bangladeshi Army on Saturday said that over 20 people were killed by heavily armed terrorists suspected to belong to terror outfit ISIS after being taken hostage at a restaurant in the capital city Dhaka on Friday evening.

The people were kept hostage for nearly 10 hours in Dhaka's upscale restaurant Gulshan. The stand-off between Army and terrorists came to a end on Saturday morning.

The operation left six terrorists killed as well.

An Indian girl, who was taken hostage in the restaurant, also died in the terror attack in Dhaka, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said that a terrorist was caught alive.

As the operation came to an end, 13 captives, including three foreigners, were rescued.
