Unfreeze assets belonging to Taliban controlled Afghanistan: China tells US

| @indiablooms | Sep 17, 2021, at 02:19 pm

Beijing: China on Wednesday called on the United States to unfreeze assets belonging to Afghanistan, and thanked the Taliban-controlled government for guaranteeing the security of Chinese investments in the nation, marking the development of a new episode between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the assets belonged to Afghanistan, and the US should accept the legitimate demands of the nation, reports South China Morning Post.

“The US should give up the path of sanctioning, and should not create obstacles for the peaceful reconstruction and economic development of Afghanistan,” Zhao was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The Taliban government came to power in Afghanistan recently.

The Taliban captured and controlled Afghanistan on Aug 15 after entering Kabul city.
