An Indian-origin man was shot dead in a suspected road rage incident in the US state of Indiana on Tuesday, media reports said on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as 29-year-old Gavin Dasaur.

Witnesses told police as quoted by WTHR that the shooting appeared to stem from a road rage incident between the driver of a black Honda and a white Chevy pickup truck.

Witnesses said there was an altercation between the drivers and, at some point, the driver of the pickup shot the other driver.

The pickup was detained but later released following investigation.

Detectives told media that the driver might have acted in self-defence.

Dasaur, who belongs from the north Indian city of Agra, recently got married.

"He was a hardworking man that always went out of his way to help anyone and wanted to give the world to me and his family," Dasaur's wife, Cinthya ZaMora, told 13News. "He did not deserve to die this way. It’s such a tragedy that my husband was murdered in cold blood."

A video has gone viral on the social media where the Indian-origin man could be seen getting out of his vehicle and yelling at the driver of the truck.

He was seen punching at the door of the truck with a gun in his hand.

The driver of the truck responded by shooting him.

“The law says you can use reasonable force when you reasonably believe it’s necessary to prevent serious bodily force to yourself or another,” attorney John Tompkins told fox59.
