Women can't be ministers, should give birth and educate: Taliban

Kabul/IBNS: Though Taliban says its model of governance in Afghanistan will be different from its previous regime, a recent statement by a Taliban spokesperson reveals the reality is far different from the insurgent group's words.

In an interview with TOLO News, Taliban spokesperson Sayed Zekrullah Hashimi said a woman can't be a minister.

"A woman can't be a minister, it is like you put something on her neck that she can't carry. It is not necessary for women to be in the cabinet - they should give birth. Women protesters can't represent all women in Afghanistan," Hashimi told TOLO News.

Not considering the "four women" protesting on the streets as the representatives of Afghan women, he said, "The women of Afghanistan are those who give birth to the people of Afghanistan, educating them on Islamic ethics."

"What a woman does, she cannot do the work of a ministry. You put something on her neck that she cannot carry," the spokesperson added.

Taliban has recently unveiled its all-men cabinet of an interim government with multiple globally-wanted terrorists.

Few days ago, some pictures had surfaced where curtains were seen drawn in classrooms to separate women from men.
