Aerospace major Airbus is likely to set up a new R&D Centre of Excellence at Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya in Gujarat.

During a recent meeting, Jürgen Westermeier, MD at Airbus, told Indian Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw that the company is sourcing more than USD  1 billion worth of components from over 100 Indian suppliers.

In an X post, Vaishnaw said: "Glad to know from Mr. Jürgen Westermeier, MD, Airbus India that Airbus is sourcing $1 billion+ worth components and has 100+ Indian suppliers."

The Indian Minister further said: "With strong design capabilities, it will soon set up an R&D Centre of Excellence at Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya."

Last year, Airbus had inaugurated its new India and South Asia Headquarters located at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

As per the official website of the Aerospace major, Airbus procures more than 1 billion euros every year from a robust and comprehensive supply chain in India for components and services, generating more than 15,000 jobs.
