Arvind bags Energy Conservation Award in textiles sector

New Delhi, Dec 15 (IBNS): Arvind Limited, an integrated textile and an apparel major in the country, has again bagged first prize in the National Energy Conservation Award 2015 in the textile sector, given by the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
After competing with 32 players contesting for this award, Arvind has bagged this award consecutively for the second year in a row, on account of its energy savings achieved through various initiatives by its unit situated at Santej in Gujarat.
 
National Energy Conservation Day, which is celebrated every year on Dec 14, witnessed giving out of ‘National Energy Conservation Award’ by Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. This year Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy in the Government of India, inaugurated the function and presented the awards at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
 
Since Arvind received first position consecutively for the second year it has been specially recognized by Award for Excellence. The award was received by  Susheel Kaul, CEO- Lifestyle Fabrics (Shirting, Khaki & Knitwear) Arvind Limited and Harvinder Rathee – Head Engineering, Santej Plant, Arvind Limited.
 
On the occasion of receiving the prestigious award, Kaul said, “Improvement in energy efficiency in our plant is a sustained activity, we appreciate Government of India’s recognition of our plant as the most energy efficient textile unit in India for the second year in a row."
 
‘The award of Excellence’ given to Arvind is on the back of nearly 13% reduction in specific consumption in thermal energy and 10 % reduction in specific consumption in electrical energy compared to the last financial year.
 
Arvind introduced various initiatives in its plant to conserve energy like replacement of TFL with energy efficient LED lighting, installation of energy efficient compressors, VFDs in various machines, using day lights in production halls, replacement of existing pumps with energy efficient pumps. The thermal energy savings where achieved by Economizers in boilers, trap replacement, thermal insulations, heat recovery from hot effluent etc.
 
“We were able to achieve power savings through various innovations and all our efforts have paid off. The year on year improvement in energy efficiency is testimony to the dedication we have towards energy conservation," said Harvinder Rathee – Head Engineering, Santej Plant, Arvind Limited.
 
The National Energy Conservation Awards instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India, recognizes innovation and achievements in energy conservation by the industry, buildings, zonal railways, state designated agencies, manufacturers of BEE star-labelled appliances and municipalities, and raise awareness that energy conservation plays a big part in India’s effort to reduce global warming through energy savings.
