New York, Sept 20 (IBNS): In a bid to help develop strategies for its Messenger app, popular social networking site Facebook has hired former senior executive at Yahoo Inc. Anand Chandrasekaran, media reports said.

"Anand Chandrasekaran, a former senior executive at Yahoo Inc., will assume a global leadership role working on strategies and partnerships for Facebook’s billion-user-strong texting service, said people familiar with the situation," The Wall Street Journal reported.

It is not clear whether Chandrasekaran will be based in the US or in India.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a Facebook spokeswoman confirmed the hire, but didn’t add anything further.

Anand Chandrasekaran is a business executive who was the Chief Product Officer of Snapdeal, one of India's pre-eminent Internet companies as well as Chief Product Officer of Bharti Airtel.
