Jet Airways to hit skies next summer after two years
New Delhi/IBNS: Grounded airline Jet Airways could be back in operations next summer as the talks between Jalan-Kalrock Capital consortium, which has been allowed by the Jet creditors to revive the airline, had "extremely positive" talks with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to reinstate airport slots and bilateral traffic rights of Jet Airways.
“As per the resolution plan, Jet Airways intends to operate all of its historic domestic slots in India and restart international operations. If everything goes as per plan and the consortium receives the NCLT and regulatory approvals on time, Jet Airways would be back in the skies by the summer of 2021,” the consortium said in a statement.
Jet Airways had stopped flying in April 2019. The consortium had also explored the option to start a new airline. "But some of the inherent strengths of Jet Airways like the optimal flight slots, brand value and reputation for best-in-class inflight service and safety, giving Jet 2.0 an edge over others, were too tempting to resist," it said.
The development came days after the consortium submitted its resolution plan which will be heard by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on December 11. Only after the NCLT approves the plan, the consortium can go ahead with the dealings.
The airline hubs will continue to remain in Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai, however, sub-hubs will be opened in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where the consortium plans to take the service.
"The revival plan proposes to support Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by creating sub-hubs in such cities. This would boost the economy in these cities, help Jet Airways stand back on its feet fast, and support the overall vision of the Indian government government to promote aviation business through tier 2/3 cities in India," the consortium said.
