Mumbai, July 12, 2016: GVK Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) has successfully commissioned an additional solar power of 410 kWp at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), the company said on Tuesday.

MIAL said this is in sync with the Government of India’s target of having 100 GW of solar power generation capacity by 2022,

The solar panels, spread across five different locations at the T2 and Cargo terminals of Mumbai International Airport, one of the city’s most significant infrastructures, have been strategically positioned on the roof tops of the building for optimum utilization of space at the airport.

Until now, CSIA was generating 650 kWp of solar power. Through additional solar installations the capacity will increase by 410 kWp, taking the total output up to 1060 kWp.

The next phase of the solar project will include plant installations of 1700 kWp.  The capacity is anticipated to further enhance to 6400 kWp by 2017.

With over 40 million travellers using the airport annually, the city airport handles the highest number of passengers per acre in comparison to other airports in the country, the company said.
