Third fuel price hike in India in 10 days: Here’s what you’ll pay now

Indian state-owned oil retailers on Saturday raised petrol and diesel prices for the third time in just 10 days as they struggle to cope with surging global crude oil prices amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to reports, petrol prices in Delhi have been increased by 87 paise per litre, while diesel prices have gone up by 91 paise per litre.

India, the world’s third-largest importer and consumer of oil, was among the last major economies to increase retail fuel prices after the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran triggered a sharp rise in crude prices globally.

The latest revision comes after the first fuel price hike in four years, which was announced on May 15.

Following the latest increase, petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 99.51 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 92.49 per litre in the national capital.

The price hike was announced just a day after India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas assured citizens that there is adequate availability of petrol and diesel across the country.

“Citizens are advised to avoid panic buying and purchase fuel only as per actual requirement. Temporary pressure at some retail outlets is being addressed through continuous supply monitoring and coordinated distribution efforts by Oil Marketing Companies,” the ministry said in a post on X.

“Responsible consumption and public cooperation will help ensure smooth fuel availability for everyone during the ongoing high-demand period,” it added.

Revised Retail Petrol Prices in Major Metro Cities (per litre):

Delhi: Rs 99.51 (up by 87 paise)
Kolkata: Rs 110.64 (up by 94 paise)
Mumbai: Rs 108.49 (up by 90 paise)
Chennai: Rs 105.31 (up by 82 paise)

Updated High-Speed Diesel Rates (per litre):

Delhi: Rs 92.49 (increased by 91 paise)
Kolkata: Rs 97.02 (up by 95 paise)
Mumbai: Rs 95.02 (higher by 94 paise)
Chennai: Rs 96.98 (raised by 87 paise)
