Bangladesh : Cyclonic storm Roanu makes landfall

Dhaka, May 21 (IBNS) Making a landfall, Cyclonic storm Roanu on Saturday crossed the Chittagong coast of Bangladesh, officials said.

The wind speed reached 62 km per hour.

“The cyclone has made landfall after crossing the Chittagong coast. It approached the land over the coast at Sandip, Hatia , Kutubdia, Sitakundu and Feni,” Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Director Shamsuddinh Ahmed  told bdnews24.com at 1:30pm on Saturday.

Heavy rains and gusty winds have been reported from the coastal areas of the country.

At least five people have been killed in the country so far.

Several houses have been shattered in the coastal areas of the country.

At least 500, 000 people from the 14 coastal district have been evacuated.
