Chattisgarh's 'Black Tea Woman' surviving on the beverage for 18 years

Raipur, Aug 24 (IBNS): How many times have we come across memes on internet showing a skeleton sitting atop a sofa, with a caption telling us about how the person started dieting but forgot to end it, thus ending in their present state?

The story of 48-year old Peeli Bai, a resident of Chattisgarh bears a staggering resemblance, with a slight twist.

She survives only on tea, and has been doing so for the past 18 years, claims the lady.

Her case has been referred by doctors as unnatural and miraculous, for it transcends science.

A resident of Korea district of the state, Peeli Bai started dieting when she was sent to Patna for her studies and went on a perpetual fast, Times of India reported.

She survives only on a cup of black tea.

Perplexed by her strange practice, her in-laws sent her home and the lady stays with her parents now, though she is paid a visit by her husband often, the daily quoted a janpad member of the village.

The amazing part about her story is though she maintains a minimal diet, Peeli Bai weighs around 45 kilograms.

However, her doctor Rakesh Sharma maintains that he provides her with vitamins supplements when the lady suffers from extreme bout of weakness.

"Scientifically, it's not possible to live a life on black tea and as she was lean and weak, I prescribed her vitamin supplements. When she becomes extremely weak from lack of proper diet, her family brings her to my hospital. We inject energy via intravenous drip and this makes her feel better. The hospital staff recognizes her as the black tea woman," Sharma was quoted as saying

Her unnatural practice has also garnered her a nickname, as she is known by the 'Black tea woman' now.
