New Delhi/IBNS: The national capital recorded the second hottest April in 72 years with a monthly average maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius amid massive heatwaves across the country.

To make it worse, the scorching temperatures have also led to hours-long blackouts across the country.

Delhi recorded a high of 43.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday.

This was the highest maximum temperature on an April day in Delhi in 12 years.

The weather department has issued an "orange" alert for the capital, warning people of a severe heatwave in many parts of Delhi.

Besides Delhi, a heatwave warning has been announced for Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, UP and Odisha.

The weather agency also notified that heatwaves could lead to "moderate" health concerns for vulnerable people.

"Hence people of these regions should avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light-colored, loose, cotton clothes and cover the head by use of cloth, hat or umbrella, etc," IMD had advised.
