Sriharikot, Andhra Pradesh, June 22 (IBNS): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday placed in orbit a record 20 satellites from its flagship rocket PSLV in a 26-minute flight from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
The satellites were placed into the orbit 17 minutes post the launch at 9.26 a.m. from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, reports said.

"20 satellites in a go! @isro continues to break new barriers. Hearty  congratulations to our scientists on the monumental accomplishment," PM Modi tweeted while ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar said  Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) has 'done its job'.

"Witnessed with immense pride and delight the brilliant moments on TV & took photos for my Instagram account," PM tweeted.

"As a common citizen, was totally immersed in happiness to see our youngsters excelling & taking so much interest in science.

"Saw with immense joy that students from institutions in Pune & Chennai played a role in the making of satellites. This touched me.

"Over the years we developed expertise & capability to help other nations in their space initiatives. This is the skill of our scientists," he posted.

Reports said the PSLV carried a total weigh of 1288 kg.

Besides the 727 kg Indian earth observation satellite Cartosat-2, which provides remote sensing and earth observations, the PSLV C-34 carried 17 foreign small satellites from Canada, Indonesia, Germany and the United States.

This was the PSLV's 36th flight.
