Italian researchers find first lake of water on Mars

| @indiablooms | Jul 25, 2018, at 11:01 pm

Tampa, USA, July 25 (IBNS): In an unprecedented discovery, a massive underground lake has been detected on Mars for the first time.

The finding hints that life can also exist on the planet as there are possibilities of detecting more such water bodies.

The report about the existence of the lake has been led by Italian researchers in the US journal Science.

According to the reports, the lake is located under a layer of Martian ice.

It is about 12 miles (20 kilometers) wide, said the report.

While Mars is characterized as a cold and barren planet today, it used to be warm and wet.

According to earlier findings, the planet was home to several liquid water and lakes some 3.6 billion years ago.

It has always been a curious area for researchers to find whether life exists on the red planet.

This particular lake, however, is not suitable for drinking, said reports.
