Woman devotee dies of cardiac arrest at Meenakshi temple

Madurai, May 17 (UNI) A sexagenarian woman devotee died of cardiac arrest while worshipping at the World-renowned Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple on Friday.

Temple sources said N.Maheswari (62) of Villapuram locality collapsed when she was circumambulating the Prahara of goddess Meenakshi shrine, after a darshan.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared brought dead.
The sanctum sanctorum of goddess Meenakshi shrine was immediately closed by the temple authorities and the priests performed purification rituals as per the temple Agama Shastra.

After an hour-long purification rituals, the sanctum sanctorum was reopened for darshan.
