90 and full of energy! Veteran actress Sushma Seth reveals her daily routine for a healthy life

Mumbai/IBNS: Veteran actress Sushma Seth has said that a disciplined lifestyle anchored in meditation, yoga and regular walking has helped her remain energetic and disease-free even at the age of 90.

Seth, who turned 90 on December 24, shared details of her daily routine while speaking on Usha Kakade’s Known Unknown podcast.

The acclaimed actress said she begins her day early and focuses on activities that promote both physical and mental well-being.

“I don’t know about beauty, but there is an energy—an energy to do everything. Waking up early, meditating, walking, doing my work on my own and practising pranayam keeps me going,” she said, adding that incorporating such habits into everyday life can help keep illness and fatigue at bay.

A revered figure in Indian theatre, film and television, Seth began her artistic journey on stage in the 1950s. She was a founding member of the Delhi-based theatre group Yatrik, where she acted in and directed several productions, establishing herself as a committed theatre professional.

She made her film debut in Shyam Benegal’s Junoon (1978) and went on to feature in a range of notable Hindi films, including Silsila, Prem Rog, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Chandni, Deewana, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

On television, Seth became a household name for her portrayal of the grandmother in Doordarshan’s pioneering soap Hum Log in the 1980s, a role that was extended due to its popularity. She also appeared in popular sitcoms such as Dekh Bhai Dekh.

Beyond her screen work, Seth has remained deeply involved in theatre, directing plays, conducting workshops and mentoring young performers. In the 1970s, she founded the Children’s Creative Theatre to nurture emerging talent.

In recognition of her lifelong contribution to theatre, television and cinema, Sushma Seth was honoured with the META Lifetime Achievement Award at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) 2023.
