A new Bengali play looks into the rot that ails society today

People are losing the impetus to live. There is no trust, love or compassion for each other. Even humanity is being discarded like used diapers and sanitary napkins. Pulled apart by the forces of necessity and the power to fulfil, common people are at a loss, according to the play.

People are not hesitant to destroy each other to accomplish their own ends.

Meanness, violence and inhumanity have turned society into a festering wound.

Its putrid smell can only be likened to a landfill, a garbage dump, a bhagaad.

In reality, a landfill occupies a specific area where everybody dumps their garbage; we cover our noses if we have to visit it; the very idea of spending some time there makes us feel nauseated.

But when society itself turns into a rotting landfill, how do we escape from that?

Bandopadhyay is trying to look at society from within the landfill that it is today.

The new play, ‘Ashchhe Bhagaad’ (the arrival of the garbage dump), shows the repulsive side of society which nobody is willing to look at.

The creative team consists of Kingshuk Bandopadhyay , Sanjoy Sarkar, Dipankar De, Samar Parui, Bandhan mandal, Sabyasachi Pal, Arijit Ghosh, and Sushil Krishna Sen.

Actors include Anupam Mukherjee Anamika Dhar, Sanjoy Sarkar, Kavya Kashyap Rakesh Sen, Sohag Saha, Bikram Banerjee, Shampa Mondal, Sampad Paral, Sourashree Paral, Chandrasekhar Roy, Ayan Chatterjee, Kingshuk Bandopadhyay and Soumita Banerjee.
