London: Writer JK Rowling on Sunday thanked her fans who boarded the Hogwarts Express since 1997 as her debut novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone turned 25, marking a major landmark in the paradigm of English fantasy writing.

Rowling remembered in tweet posts about the feelings of happiness that overjoyed her when she saw the novel being sold in a bookstore for the first time in Edinburgh 25 years ago.

Harry Potter and her adventure books are now an iconic series for booklovers.

Driven by their love and madness, readers have queued up in front of book stores globally over the years to grab a new copy of Harry's book when they were released in the past.

Recollecting her journey, Rowling wrote on Twitter: "25 years ago today, I saw Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in a bookstore (Waterstones, Prince's Street, Edinburgh) for the very first time. It was one of the best moments of my life. Thank you, @BloomsburyBooks, for taking a chance on a total unknown."

"I had absolutely no idea what was coming as I stood dumbstruck in that book shop, staring at my name on the spine of a published novel. Thank you to every single reader who boarded the Hogwarts Express in 1997 and stuck with Harry until the very end. What a journey it was," she said.

Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels which included titles like Chamber of Secrets (1998), Prisoner of Azkaban (1999), Goblet of Fire (2000), Order of the Phoenix (2003), Half-Blood Prince (2005) and Deathly Hallows (2007).

The novels chronicle the lives of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Not only the book, even the movie series made on Rowling's story was equally popular across the globe among movie buffs.

Daniel Radcliffe became a household name as he perfectly played the character of onscreen Harry.
