Microsoft layoffs: Satya Nadella company terminates employees across verticals in fresh job cuts for 'future growth'

Washington/IBNS: American tech company Microsoft said that it held another round of layoffs this week as part of its ongoing effort to streamline its workforce after reports claimed that the new job cuts will impact various teams and locations across the Satya Nadella company.

According to a report by Wired Geek, the layoffs have mainly taken place in product and programme management functions as per social media posts on LinkedIn.

However, the tech giant has not disclosed the number of employees that have been impacted in its latest round of job cuts.

Confirming the reports of fresh layoffs in Microsoft, a spokesperson of the Washington-headquartered company explained, "Organisational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business. We will continue to prioritise and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners.”

Microsoft has been focussing on restructuring efforts this year, as per reports.

The company did the same in 2023 as well, and the fresh round of job cuts follow previous layoffs that have taken place last year.

In the beginning of 2024, Microsoft cut 2,000 jobs in its gaming division while last month, the company undertook a round of layoffs that impacted almost 1,000 positions including roles within the Azure cloud unit and the HoloLens mixed-reality team, according to reports.

So far, nearly 100,000 employees have lost their jobs in 2024 due to the layoffs in the tech industry worldwide.

In 2023, the number of employees laid off by tech companies across the globe was close to 260,000.
