Santoor Maestro Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya creates raga Ganga

Kolkata, Aug 7 (IBNS): Santoor Maestro Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya has created a new raga Ganga dedicated to the lifeline of India.

The notes are ascending sa ga..( flat)..ga...pa..dha..ni ( flat)..dha..pa..ga ( flat) followed by descending notes sa..ni ( flat)..dha..pa.. ga ( flat)..ga..sa. The alap is lyrical and is followed by Jod  which increases in tempo and speed. This is followed by teen tal in slow gat of 16 beats and a fast teen tal.

The maestro expresses his sentiment of sadness and melancholy as we are slowly destroying our lifeline Ganga and almost reducing it to that of a sewerage pouring all the filth and polluting it to the extent that it may soon become extinct.

The new raag is his salutation to Mother Ganga and an appeal to all Indians that enough is enough , now let us get into the act of cleaning up our Mother Ganga and save her from extinction.

He recorded the raag Ganga at his personal studio recently and was ably supported by GIMA Award winner Pdt Prodyut Mukherjee on Tabla.

Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya who as a disciple of Bharat Ratna Pdt Ravi Shankar learnt the finer nuances of Santoor at Benares under the watchful eye of the Sitar legend on the banks Ganga  shall unveil the album featuring the New Raag Ganga at Varanasi.
