Shyamashree Sen takes charge of Rotary District 3291 at Samarurha

Kolkata, July 4 (IBNS): In a glittering programme titled Samarurha held at Kolkata's Nazrul Mancha, Shyamashree Sen took charge of the 97-year-old Rotary International District 3291, becoming the only second lady Governor of the international service organization here, to head the district.

More than 2000 Rotarians, industrialists, cultural icons and renowned medical practitioners were present to witness the changeover ceremony.

Past Rotary International Director Yash Pal Das was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
 
Cultural presentations by Shilpatirtha and Unicorn Dance Company along with financial contribution towards the rehabilitation of a 12 year old physically challenged cancer survivor Anjali Roy was made on the occasion. Also a contribution of Rs 1 lakh was made for the inmates of Arunima Hospice , a home for HIV infected.

District Governor Shyamashree Sen outlined her vision for 'Wash In School' project where health, hygiene awareness and wash basin installations would be made in schools of Bengal. Others include 200 cleft in palate operations, 10000 IOL operations, Organ donation awareness campaign, Thalassaemia awareness and screening programs, Self Help Group skill training programs and more.

The programme also featured some of the topmost medical practitioners being felicitated including Chanchal Gsowami, Indrajit Roy, Bhobotosh Biswas, Sunil Nag and Ramendu Hom Chowdhury among others.
