Students put up musical performance with throwaway items

Kolkata, Apr 11 (IBNS): Students of M.C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth has recently put up an enthralling performance in their school using throwaway household items as instruments.

Nineteen students from standard IV to standard XII participated to produce a musical extravaganza.

Students used various commonly discarded household items like Bisleri water bottles, plastic kerosene cans, jam jars, steel and brass crockery as musical instruments.

They created lilting music with these items to keep the audience thrilled.

Leading musicians from popular Bangla bands Lakkhichara and Cactus, Gaurab ‘Gaboo’ Chatterjee and Sibaji 'Baji' Paul were present to encourage the students.

The programme started with a Sandhya Arati performance. However to create the ambience for the Arati, the students did not use the traditional bells and conch.

Instead, they used broken pipes to create the effect of conch and to effectuate the sound of bells, they used brass plates and bowls. After the opening item, the students put up several mellifluous and rhythmic pieces to captivate the hearts of the audience.

“The duty of any school is to nurture students in such a way that their talents get the right exposure. Our staff continuously makes an effort to assess the talents of our students and ascertain their areas of interest. Often during this process we tend to chance upon some rare talents, and always try to nurture them in every possible way”, said K.K.Kejriwal, Managing Trustee, M.C.Kejriwal Vidyapeeth.

The creative performances included a Sawal Jawab between a band using unconventional musical instruments and a band with traditional musical instruments; items based on musical, and other creative pieces-all using unconventional instruments.
