Noida/IBNS: Vaishali Kala Kendra Noida in association with US-based Trinayan Collective will hold a special programme on June 20, International Yoga Day.

Called ‘Nritya Yog’, the programme will be held virtually on Sunday, 5pm onwards.

Through Nritya Yog, the organisers want to educate the younger generation about the age-old art forms through Yoga Philosophy.

Founder of Vaishali Kala Kendra and an expert Odissi dancer herself, Guru (Dr) Jyoti Shrivastava, said, Bani Doblar, guest artist from the US, will be presenting Bandha Nritya (Yogic Postures) to show the connection between Yoga and Nritya.

It was in 1972 that the late Guru Shrinath Raut observed an inborn talent in young  Jyoti Shrivastava and initiated her into the Odissi dance form.

In her journey of dance, she came under the guidance of three celebrated gurus, late Guru Srinath Raut, Guru Ramli Ibrahim and Guru Durga Charan Ranbir.

As Director of Vaishali Kala Kendra, an institute of Odissi research and training in Noida, she is responsible for continuation of the styles and compositions of the late Guru Deba Prasad Das.

In Malaysia, she has worked with Ramli Ibrahim on several productions of Sutra Dance Theatre Kuala Lumpur.

Vaishali Kala Kendra has been responsible for nurturing and training many talented dancers.

This gurukul holds workshops cutting across national and international boundaries.

Dr Jyoti Shrivastava’s students have reached such heights to receive national scholarships, ICCR empanelment and Doordarshan grading.

To continue the legacy of Guru Shishya Parampara (the Teacher-Student Tradition) and as an ode to her own Gurus, she has been organising a festival of music and dance named Guru Pranam Utsav for 29 years.
