An Air India flight operating from Delhi to Amritsar briefly entered Pakistani airspace while carrying out a go-around manoeuvre at Amritsar airport on Monday, the airline said.

The incident involved flight AI479, which was flying from Delhi to Amritsar on June 22.

According to Air India, the aircraft marginally infringed Pakistani airspace while the crew was manoeuvring the plane during a go-around procedure.

Incident reported to aviation regulators

In a statement, the airline said the matter has been reported to the relevant regulatory authorities and is currently under internal investigation.

"The crew operating flight AI479 from Delhi to Amritsar on 22 June had marginally infringed into the Pakistan airspace while manoeuvring a go-around at Amritsar airport. The incident has been reported to the regulatory authorities and is being investigated internally," Air India said.

The airline did not specify how far the aircraft entered Pakistani airspace or the duration of the infringement.

Safety remains top priority

Air India stressed that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority and said it is examining the circumstances that led to the brief airspace infringement.

No disruption to passengers or safety concerns have been reported in connection with the incident.

What is a go-around?

A go-around is a standard aviation safety procedure in which pilots discontinue a landing attempt and climb away from the runway before making another approach.

Such manoeuvres may be carried out due to weather conditions, runway occupancy, unstable approaches, or other operational considerations.

The airline has not disclosed the specific reason for the go-around at Amritsar airport.
