Air India Phuket-Delhi flight hit by violent turbulence, 12 injured mid-air
At least 12 passengers were injured after an Air India flight travelling from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday, according to reports.
Sources told NDTV that the injured included two cabin crew members. The aircraft also reportedly sustained minor damage during the turbulence.
Confirming the incident, Air India said flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on August 4, experienced a brief turbulence-related event while cruising.
"Air India confirms that flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on 4 August, experienced a brief in-flight turbulence-related event during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude," the airline said in a statement quoted by ANI.
The Tata Group-owned carrier said the aircraft landed safely in New Delhi and all passengers disembarked without incident.
"There have been no serious injuries as of now. A small number of passengers and crew members with minor injuries requiring medical assessment have been taken to a medical facility at the airport for precautionary examination and care by Air India's airport team and medical personnel," the airline spokesperson said.
Air India added that it is extending all necessary assistance to the affected passengers and crew while the incident is being reviewed.
