Imphal/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in violence-hit Manipur on Monday for a three-day sojourn.

He was received by Chief Minister N Biren Singh at Imphal airport.

Amit Shah will hold talks with various sections of the society and visit some parts of the state.

Violence erupted on May 3 and after a few days of lull, fresh attacks by armed terrorists started during the last few days.

Amit Shah had earlier appealed for peace in Manipur and said he would interact with people of both ethnic communities involved in the ongoing violence.

Manipur has been on the boil after an explosion of interethnic violence this month killed at least 70 people and left tens of thousands displaced.

Some 2,000 houses were also burned down across the state.
