Vijayawada/IBNS: An eight-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered by her three serniors- two aged 12 and one 13- of the same school, in an incident that has sent shockwaves, media reports said.

The incident happened in Andhra Pradesh's Nandyal district.

The girl, who was a class 3 student, went missing on Sunday. Her father had filed a police complaint.

Police launched a search operation but could not find the girl, who according to her father went to play at Muchumarri Park but did not return.

A sniffer dog guided police to the three accused, the minors who have been detained by police.

When quizzed, the boys admitted they joined the girl who was playing in the park. The accused said they took the girl to a desolate place and raped her near Muchumarri dam.

Out of fear that the girl might have told her parents, the accused murdered the girl and threw her in the canal.

The body of the girl is yet to be recovered. Police are continuing with the missing case.
