Guwahati, Aug 22 (IBNS): Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Vijay Kumar Singh on Friday said floods in Assam is "nothing new" and there is no role for DoNER to flood control.

“Floods in Assam is nothing new and I have been dealing with flood since 1970 onwards,” VK Singh said at a press conference held at Guwahati.

“There have no role for DoNER as assist fund to state required to solve the problem. It is a job of Ministry of Water Resources,” VK Singh said.

“But I can be initiator, I can assist, I can suggest, I can push. Flood is not just development, it is only a part of the issue. DoNER’s role to carry forward the development works in various fields,” the DoNER minister said.

VK Singh said that, there have not conducted any proper studies on Brahmaputra river so far.

“I will recommend to Ministry of Water Resources to conduct proper studies on Brahmaputra,” VK Singh said.

On other hand, the Union Minister of DoNER said that the NE states have to be focused to generate their own revenue for better development.
