Assam Rifles-police busted terrorist camps, recovered arms-ammunition

Guwahati/IBNS: Security forces on Saturday morning busted two camps of insurgent groups National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Reformation (NSCN-R) and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in Assam’s Cachar district and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Security personnel had also apprehended two terrorists.

Cachar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said that, based on intelligence input, the troops of Assam Rifles and Cachar district police had jointly launched an operation at thick jungles of Ramgaizan area under Jirighat police station of Lakhipur sub-division and destroyed makeshift camps used by NSCN-R and ZUF terrorists.

“The terrorists had used the camps to carry out their activities in Zeliangrong region,” the top police official said.

Security personnel had apprehended two terrorists identified as Pougonglong alias Lucky (self-styled second Lieutenant of NSCN-R) and Sagu Rongmai (self-styled Captain of ZUF).

The top police official said that, security personnel had recovered one AK 56 Rifle, 20 rounds 7.62 mm ammunition, 123 rounds 5.56 mm ammunition, extortion slip book, mobile phones and various household items from the their hidden camp site.

“Both terrorist were involved in illegal extortion, kidnapping and criminal activities in Zeliangrong region,” Mahanta said.

On other hand, two other terrorists were fled away from the camp at the time of operation.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched search operation to nab the fled terrorists.
