Assam : Three ULFA (I) militants killed in IED blast

Guwahati, Aug 1 (IBNS) : Three hardcore militants of Untied Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) were killed in a powerful IED blast in Assam’s Goalpara district along the Meghalaya border on Friday morning, police said.
Assam Home Commissioner GD Tripathi said that, the incident occurred at Mongre village under Agia police station in the bordering district.
 
 “The incident occurred when the ULFA (I) militants took shelter with an IED at a farmer house of Malaijeet Rabha and suddenly exploded the IED and the militants were killed on spot,” GD Tripathi said.
 
Among the deceased militants two cadres were identified as Kanteswar Rabha alias Parama Asom and Akon Rabha.
 
Another militant have yet to be identified.
 
Security forces had recovered a hand grenade, one pistol, two magazines from the blast site.
 
Top police official had rushed to the spot and started investigation.
 
“Ahead of the Independence day celebration, the ULFA (I) militants had been trying to plant IED targeting to Guwahati city,” Goalpara SP Nitul Gogoi said.
 
On other hand, security has been beefed up across the state ahead of the Independence Day celebration.
